About FoAP project
FoAP – The future of Albania’s Past project was conceived in 2005, as part of the NGO Albanian Heritage Foundation, financed by Packard Humanity Institute, aiming to create the countries’ first national digital archive system for recording, monitoring and evaluating the archaeological sites and historical monuments data on relation to their surrounding territories.
This idea generated as an urgent need of the country for storing and analyzing in a unique digital archive the vast quantity and complexity of data accumulated in years through surveys and archaeological research, alongside with the newly collected data information.
Today, this system is a highly effective instrument for mitigating risk to historically sensitive landscapes under great pressure from a wide range of national programs of construction currently being implemented.
Also, FoAP archive serves as an important research, education and informative tool for specialists of archaeology and heritage, students and the wide public.

Currently, the system developed by FoAP project, is moving toward the establishmet of a Historical Environment Recording system (HER), which will enable a strong relation of sites, monuments and landscape, providing a detailed record of the historical landscape and allow accurate assessment of potential risk.
