Team members

Eglantina Serjani – In the last 9 years has worked in a number of field archaeological and heritage management projects. She received her bachelor degree in history and archaeology from Tirana University, Faculty of History – Philology in 2003. MA studies in 2004-2005 at the Università degli Studi di Siena for: Archaeology and History of the Early Medieval Period. "Interpretation, analyzing and evaluation of written sources, electronic systems and practice of management" (MUASA).
Since June 2005, works as the co-director of FoAP project, “Future of Albania's Past”, where has been engaged on the establishment and development of the first Database Management System of archaeological sites, monuments and historical areas of Albania. Her main duties in this project relate to the creation and development of the database system, maintaining and updating the project’s website and the students training program. Main interests include the study of early medieval archaeology; landscape archaeology; data standards applied in the archaeological and heritage management. E-mail:

Ardit Miti
– He received his bachelor degree in history and archaeology from Tirana University, Faculty of History – Philology in 2003. MA studies in 2004-2005 at the Università degli Studi di Siena for: Archaeology and History of the Early Medieval Period. "Interpretation, analyzing and evaluation of written sources, electronic systems and practice of management" (MUASA). Currently, a PhD student at the University of Granada, studding the landscape archaeology and the dynamic population during the early middle ages in the upper part of the Vjosa River valley.
Since June 2005 works as the co-director of FoAP project, “Future of Albania's Past”, where has been engaged on the establishment and development of the first Database Management System of archaeological sites, monuments and historical areas of the country. His main responsibilities in the project include the creation and developments of the GIS map platform and the database system. He is also involved in the student training program which provides knowledge’s on the computer technologies and methodologies applied in the management of heritage data. His main research interests include the early medieval archaeology and history of the byzantine world; landscape archaeology and GIS application; archaeological and heritage management.

Dave Bescoby
– Over the past 17 years, has worked on numerous archaeological projects, spanning commercial, academic and community sectors, including major research grant funded projects with the University of East Anglia and University of Nottingham, UK. Received his BSc (Hons) degree in Archaeology, University of Bradford 1997; MSc in Geo-archaeology, University of Reading 2000 and Ph.D in Archaeological Science, University of East Anglia 2003. Currently teaches archaeological field methods, environmental geophysics, forensic science and GIS at the University of East Anglia. With a background in Landscape archaeology and GIS, he has been working on the development of the web-based GIS technology within the FoAP project since 2008. His main research interests include GIS applications to landscape archaeology; Palaeo environmental reconstruction and archaeological remote sensing.

Ulsi Tota - Received his bachelor degree for history from the University of Tirana, Faculty of History-Philology in 2008; Master of sciences in archaeology, from the University of Tirana in 2010, graduated as an excellent student. He is engaged in the FoAP project since 2007, initially as part the project’s training program, working on the collection of archaeological and heritage data from bibliographical and archival sources. He is also involved in the digitizing process of the data and their entry into the database management system. Lately has assisted the project’s training program. His main interests include the study of late antique period, with a specific focus on the development process of fortified settlements.


Glejdi Floku – He received his bachelor degree for architecture in the Polytechnic University of Tirana, Faculty of Construction Engineering, in 2008. Since, March 2009, works as part-time collaborator in the FoAP project. During this time has been engaged in the digitizing process of archaeological and historical sites and monuments plans of the FoAP archive system, in CAD, the generation of 3-D reconstruction and the photorealistic renderings. He has also participated in some of the project field surveys. Main interests include the application of designing computer technologies in archaeological and heritage management and the study of museology.
